Super hit Movie Prem Aggan (1998) Synopsis : "Feroz Khan" is an intense drama of love and betrayal. Set in India and Australia the film explories the world of Suraj and Sapna. A young couple who like all young couples, believe their love to be eternal. Sapna was a daredevil, highly spirited and totally carefree. She derived excitment from life by taking risks that were some times dangerous. She afforded this attitude as she was the only daughter of J.K.A.Global Business Tycoon who totally indulged her and whom she shared a very close relationship. Suraj on the other hand was calm,cool, and collected. He had met Sapna. The girl of his dreams, while studying at University. Together they made the perfect couple. IF Sapna was carefree then Suraj was logic and reason. If she needed to catch up with her studies then he would help her. His love for her knew no bounds even the risks she took some time got him into trouble. J.K. had never approved of their relationship as he had grand plans for his daughter to be married to a person befitting their social stature to which Suraj did not and could not belong as he was the son of an army colonel. At the same time he did not wish to put an abrupt end to their relationship as he was afraid Sapna would rebel against him. Instead he waited patiently and finally one day, in a dramatic turn of events, he got the opportunity he desired and shattered Sapna and Surajs hopies and dreams of spending the rest of their lives together. He also in Sapnas extreme moment of weakness forced her to betray Suraj and emmigrate with her family to Australia. Suraj was unable to comprehend Sapnas sudden departure. He did not believe that a love so pure and with so many promises could end so suddenly. Dejected with everything around him, he knew he would never find peace until he found out why the girl he loved more than his own life had betrayed him. Selling his dearest possession. A motorcycle given to him by his father, he managed to raise the money he needed in order to go to Australia. Upon his arrival there he discovered the truth behind Sapnas sudden departure and now there was nothing in the world that would stop him from uniting with his love, even it meant facing the wrath of J.K.

Ek chotisi love story is a story of 15-year-old Aditya (Aditya Seal) and his voyeuristic love of his nameless neighbor (Manisha Koirala) featuring bathroom masturbation scenes which are virtually unseen in Bollywood. Soon Aditya s hobby turns into infatuation as he begins to follow her movements closely. He feels sexually drawn towards her when he sees her coming out of her bath, her hair dripping wet. He feels jealous when he catches her making love with her boyfriend (Ranvir Shorey). Manisha is unaware of her secret admirer. When the boy musters up the courage and speaks his heart to her, she takes it in her stride and gives him a little teaser on adolescent love.

Holiday Synopsis : Director Pooja Bhatt goes on the lighter side this time with Holiday after her heavy Paap. Holiday is the story of an ugly, clumsy, and unpopular girl frustrated by all her failures and just once wants to make her father proud. Her sister plays the role equivalent to the stereotypical American "blonde ditz," and might I add, she did a pretty poor job at it. The girl falls in love at sight with Dino, a salsa dance teacher. She gets herself involved in his personal problems with Kashmira Shah. This story had lots of potential such as developing the sister's relationship with her "boyfriend," but was sadly left alone. Nonetheless, there were a few good scenes. My favorite is the one where Dino tells the girl to not be crushed by others and lose her identity, or she will just become another face in the crowd, the theme of the movie. This scene takes the movie beyond your typical "ugly duckling" story and gives it much more depth. The protagonist was poorly casted. She gave a poor performance. Dino's immense efforts in learning salsa and his character clearly showed through the screen. Kashmira was also good.

Charlie Chaplin - The Kid

"A comedy with a smile--and perhaps a tear". As she leaves the charity hospital and passes a church wedding, Edna deposits her new baby with a pleading note in a limousine and goes off to commit suicide. The limo is stolen by thieves who dump the baby by a garbage can. Charlie the Tramp finds the baby and makes a home for him. Five years later Edna has become an opera star but does charity work for slum youngsters in hope of finding her boy. A doctor called by Edna discovers the note with the truth about the Kid and reports it to the authorities who come to take him away from Charlie. Before he arrives at the Orphan Asylum Charlie steals him back and takes him to a flophouse. The proprietor reads of a reward for the Kid and takes him to Edna. Charlie is later awakened by a kind policeman who reunites him with the Kid at Edna's mansion

The Promotion

A war of wills takes place between two men who want to run the same grocery store in this offbeat comedy from writer and director Steven Conrad. Doug (Seann William Scott) is a seemingly ordinary guy who works as the assistant manager of a supermarket near Chicago. When the owners of the market announce they're opening a new branch near Doug's neighborhood, he applies to become manager of the new store, and both he and his wife (Jenna Fischer) assume he's a shoo-in to get the job. But Richard (John C. Reilly), a gregarious recent hire at the store who has relocated to Illinois from Canada, announces he's also applying for the management position, and a keen rivalry develops between Doug and Richard even as they strive to act like friends on the surface. As the competition grows between the two, their personality flaws become increasingly evident -- Doug's short temper, Richard's history of drug abuse -- and when Richard's wife (Lili Taylor) leaves him, the contest starts taking an uncomfortable turn. The Promotion also stars Fred Armisen, Gil Bellows, and Bobby Cannavale.

Lovewrecked

An 18-year old rock & roll fan finds her crafty scheme to have a little fun in the sun with her favorite musician thwarted in this romantic teen comedy starring Amanda Bynes and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Jenny (Bynes) is a wide-eyed teen who has recently been hired to work at a popular tropical resort for the summer. When Jenny learns that handsome rock star Jason (Chris Carmack) will be a guest at the posh resort, her excitement is simply too powerful to contain. Fortunately for Jenny, fate is on her side this summer, and when Jason falls overboard from his cruise ship Jenny reflexively dives in to save him. Upon rafting to the safety of a nearby shore, Jenny convinces the hunky rocker that the pair are castaways on a deserted island paradise. Of course, considering that the luxury resort is just a stone's throw away, this minor deception is a bit of a stretch, but what's a little white lie when the object of her affections is none the wiser? Jenny's brilliant plan for romance is soon complicated, however, when her romantic rival, Alexis (Sigler), washes ashore pretending to be shipwrecked as well. Now, as the pair competes for Jason's affections, Jenny's deception rapidly begins to unravel.

Bend it like Beckham

An independent-minded young woman discovers the joys of football, much to her family's chagrin, in this upbeat British comedy drama. Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra) is an 18-year-old growing up in West London, where her family has taken every effort to stay in touch with its Indian heritage. Jess' father and mother (Anupam Kher and Shaheen Khan) are after their daughter to go to law school, learn to cook a traditional Indian dinner, and settle down with a nice Indian boy -- the latter of which is high on the agenda of her older sister Pinky (Archie Panjabi), who is soon to wed her longtime beau Teetu (Kulvinder Ghir). However, her family is unaware that Jess has a secret passion -- football (or soccer, as it's known in North America). While Jess' enthusiasm for football star David Beckham is obvious, given the fact his photos cover the walls of her room, her parents don't know that in her spare time she likes to play a friendly game in the park with some of the boys in the neighborhood. One day, while Jess and her pals kick the ball around, she meets Jules (Keira Knightley), who is quite impressed with Jess' skills. Jules plays with a local semi-pro women's football team, the Hounslow Harriers, and she thinks Jess has what it takes to make the team. Jess knows that her parents would never approve of their daughter playing football, so she doesn't tell them, and starts spinning an increasingly complex series of lies as she tries to keep up a double life as a student and a footballer. Jess soon discovers a number of her new friends have their own problems to overcome; Jules dreams of playing pro ball in America, but has to deal with her stubborn and disapproving mother (Juliet Stevenson), while Joe (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), Hounslow's Irish coach, still struggles with the disappointment of a career as a professional athlete which was dashed by a knee injury. Bend It Like Beckham was a significant box-office success in Great Britain and Europe, but didn't reach American theaters until nearly a year after it debuted in the U.K.

Kissing Cousins

Written and directed by Amyn Kaderali, Kissing Cousins is a romantic comedy about a cynical bachelor, Amir (Samrat Chakrabarti), who decides to appease his relationship-minded friends by recruiting his beautiful British cousin, Zara (Rebecca Hazlewood), to pretend to be his girlfriend. This Indian-American production boasts supporting turns by David Alan Grier, Jaleel White (Family Matters' Urkel), and Gerry Bednob (best known for his scene-stealing role in The 40-Year-Old Virgin).   

Bride and Prejudice

The very British sensibilities of Jane Austen are introduced to the exotic flavors of the Bollywood musical in this romantic comedy with songs from the director of Bend It Like Beckham, Gurinder Chadha. Lalita Bakshi (Aishwarya Rai) is the lovely and eligible daughter of her socially ambitious mother and father (Nadira Babbar and Anupam Kher). Mother and father want to be sure that Lalita, the most beautiful of their four daughters, settles down with a man worthy of her, but she has proven resistant to matchmaking, announcing that she will choose her own husband, and will choose him for love. While mother is keen on the profoundly annoying Kholi (Nitin Chandra Ganatra), Lalita has had her head turned by a handsome vagabond from England, Johnny Wickham (Daniel Gilles). But while attending the wedding of a friend, Lalita meets Will Darcy (Martin Henderson), a college buddy of family friend Raj (Naveen Andrews) who is the son of a wealthy hotel magnate. Lalita finds that Will makes a strong impression on her -- she can't stand him, but she also can't get him out of her mind. Will feels the same way about her, and as they inadvertently chase one another over three continents, will morbid fascination grow into true love? Bride and Prejudice marked the first English-speaking role for Aishwarya Rai, who had firmly established herself as India's leading female star when this film was made.
